Finally, after more than four months of ‘lockdown’, we have thrown open the doors of both of our churches to welcome people for individual prayer.
You are now warmly invited to come and pray in our churches at the following times:
St Peters Gildersome Every Wednesday from 10.00 - noon
St Pauls Drighlington Every Wednesday from 2.00-4.00
Whilst we all know that the church can worship outside the confines of a physical building and ‘we can pray anywhere’, still there is something vital and life-giving about being able to come into our much-loved buildings to find peace, comfort and spiritual resource.
Please read these ‘Frequently Asked Questions’ as you prepare to come to our churches to make the experience safe for everyone.
Will there be a service? No, there will not be any corporate prayer or worship during individual prayer times. The churches are opening for prayer only. We will provide a helpful leaflet with prayers and resources (please take this sheet away with you afterwards!) Or you can just pray on your own.
How many people can come? With current social distancing rules we can welcome 20 people into St Pauls and 25 into St Peters. We do not anticipate that limit being reached during times of prayer, but it is possible that you may be asked to wait outside until space is available.
What COVID-19 regulations will be in place? When you arrive you should wash your hands using the hand gel provided. Observe the customary social distancing measures that we have all become accustomed to.
Should I wear a mask? Yes, the Government has now updated the guidance to make the wearing of masks compulsory in churches.
Will toilets be open? Yes. However, to keep social distancing we will observe a ‘one in, one out’ system. Our stewards will be on hand to assist.
Can I come if I am over 70 or vulnerable? Yes, although you should take extra care and mitigate risks to yourself. Please do not come if you exhibit any COVID symptoms or feel unwell. This is to protect yourself and others who may be present.
We will be starting worship at St Pauls on SUNDAY AUGUST 9th. with a service at 11.00 am. This service will require you to pre-book to attend, so that we can collect 'Test & Trace' data and ensure that capacity limits are not exceeded.
If you would like to book for the first service then please ring Sue Shaw (07966 292445).
A few pointers about coming to worship in church
Please do not come if you are unwell or have any COVID-19 symptoms
Masks are now compulsory - Government rules, not ours!
The service will be 'said' as we are not permitted to sing at the moment
Communion will be in one kind only (the bread)
Please follow instructions about social distancing, especially when it comes to receiving communion.
Worship at St Peters is scheduled to commence in September.
We will update this information in coming weeks with information about St Peters and how we will structure our worship pattern over the coming months as services across the benefice return to something approaching normal.
Please bear with us. We know that many are anxious to return to worship, but there are many safety considerations and Government guidance is changing on a regular basis.
Check back here or keep an eye on our social media pages for the very latest information.
