The most famous scarecrow of all
Who is the most famous scarecrow ever?
Surely it has to be the scarecrow that Dorothy meets on the way to the Emerald City in the Oscar-winning film ‘The Wizard of Oz’?
Here we see a scarecrow sitting out there in a field, doing nothing much in particular. An encounter with Dorothy changed his life forever and he found a purpose and meaning in his life that he’d never known before.
In the same way, an encounter with Jesus Christ changes us forever. In Christ we - just like the scarecrow - are free to run, walk, live. Suddenly, there is joy, excitement, fulfilment...
Can you recall what the scarecrow wanted most of all? He wanted a brain.
Not so he could talk - he could already do that. Not so he could think - he was already doing that. He needed a brain so he could know truth. The truth about himself and about the world around him
Jesus said: You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free.
There is such a thing as truth. Our world says truth is relative, changing from generation to generation and from person to person. What is right for you might not be right for me. What is wrong to you might not be wrong to me.
But – as Pilate said - what is truth? Jesus is the truth.
· The truth is that we have been created by God with purpose.
· The truth is that God created us for a relationship with him.
· The truth is that He created us with a God-shaped hole that only he can fill.
· The truth is that He created us to live with him forever.
So will you begin living the truth?
