Big News for Drighlington and Gildersome!
We have some super-exciting news to share with everyone...
June Cockburn, who is currently in the 3rd year of her Ordination training at St Hild College in Mirfield, is to join us in 2020 as our brand new curate.
She will be living in the Vicarage in Drighington, but will be working right across the benefice on the full range of activities and ministries that make up our varied benefice.
The date of the ordination is going to be Saturday July 4th 2020, and the curacy will last for between three and four years.
Having spent the past few months working towards this point, and needing to keep everything under wraps, we were finally able to announce the news at the benefice service on September 15th and - in a surprise twist - immediately introduce June to the congregation there and then!
We will obviously get to know June much more as time goes on, but to get us started here are five things you should know about June Cockburn!
June is a born and bred Bradfordian (which makes her eminently qualified to work with our Bradfordian Vicar) and her 'home' church is St Johns in Clayton.
She was one of nine children, and went to the same school as our Vicar - Whetley Lane School in Bradford - although not at the same time...
June grew up within black-led Pentecostal churches, but has now found her spiritual home within the Church of England. She first felt called into ministry quite a few years ago, and after initial resistance she eventually responded to the call, and began the journey which has led her to this point.
She is married to Eric, who is an IT and Games Programming lecturer in Leeds College, and has three grown up children (a son and two daughters).
June's special treat is to go on 'Spa Days'. So if anyone is thinking about an ordination present, you have your answer right there!
We look forward to getting to know June and Eric much more in coming months and to them joining us in a few months time.
